FAQs


1. WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO BOOK A SHORT-TERM LEASING?

Due to the administrative procedures (factory’s order and control, car registration and delivery process), a short-term lease reservation must be made at least 3 weeks minimum before the delivery of your car. Some exceptions may apply, in case of last-minute booking, the customer must contact us to verify the availability of the car.


2. CAN I CHOOSE THE COLOR OF MY CAR?

No. Citroën and DS Automobiles cannot confirm the color of your car. However, it is possible to guarantee the minimum engine power as well as some series equipment of your car.


3. CAN I DRIVE MY CAR ANYWHERE IN EUROPE?

You can drive through 40 countries in Europe. For the full list, please consult the General Terms & Conditions here (page 7).


4. GASOLINE OR DIESEL?

The difference of price between the gasoline version and the diesel version is no longer very high. Some of the vehicles are now at the same price regardless of the fuel type. However, in Europe, diesel is less expensive per liter than gasoline. Diesel is also widely available in Europe and you will have no problem when it comes time to fill up.

From an environmental point of view, diesel contains more pollutants than gasoline. Therefore, we are encouraging our customer to look to hybrid or gasoline’s versions.


5. ARE MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS COVERED BY THE INSURANCE?

No. You should have your own private travel insurance to cover loss or damage to personal belongings. 

Also, you have to know that the keys, registration certificate or emergency triangle/vest you will be charged if there are missing at the time of return. A lost key will cost up to €200, registration certificate €200 and triangle/vest €25. 

Never leave your car registration and key sets (both keys) inside the car. Vehicles may be equipped with an electronic key for the Keyless Entry and Starting system, if one of the electronic keys is left inside the vehicle, the central locking will not take place and the vehicle will stay unlocked.


6. IF I WANT TO STAY LONGER, HOW CAN I EXTEND MY CONTRACT?

To arrange an extension to your lease period, you will have to contact directly Citroën Car-2-Europe in Paris. Extensions must be arranged at least 5 working days prior to the initial end date of your contract. Note that your total lease duration cannot exceed 175 days.

7. WHAT IS THE FRANCE CRIT'AIR STICKER?

There are certain areas in Europe where traffic is restricted and regulated for the most polluting vehicles. Find on this link the list of concerned areas: https://www.green-zones.eu/fr.html

If you want to go to one of these areas during your stay, it is important to make the move to be in good standing. To drive in French environmental zones, the Crit'Air sticker is mandatory. You can begin the administrative procedure to get the sticker only when you take possession of your vehicle. To do this, go to https://certificat-air.gouv.fr/

All you need to do afterwards is fill in the necessary information to validate your application for a sticker with the organization concerned. Once your request is validated, the sticker will be sent to your home. If, however you do not have an address in France to which you would be able to receive the sticker, know that it is authorized to drive in the environmental zones with the proof of request. Keep it, it will serve as proof in case of police control.

GERMANY: An Environmental Badge is also required in a growing number of cities and towns (known as 'environmental zones') throughout Germany. They can be obtained from most new car dealerships throughout Germany at a cost of approx. €8. We suggest you arrange this when you first enter a town/city that requires a badge, as ordering online is impossible without the vehicle registration document, which you are not given until vehicle collection.


8. CAN I TAKE MY VEHICLE ON A FERRY?

Yes. Note that when you are booking your ferry, if you are asked for a registration plate number, please insert “rental car” as you will not know your registration plate number until you collect your vehicle. If you book a ferry that absolutely must have a registration plate number, contact us 2 weeks prior to your collection date and we will obtain it for you.


9. DO YOU PROVIDE WINTER TYRES?

No. All vehicles are equipped with standard tires. Winter tires must be installed and paid for by the contract holder at destination and the vehicle must be returned with its original tyres.

2022 NEW FRENCH LEGISLATION: During winter (from Nov 1st to Marc 31th) for selected towns of mountain areas, the drivers will need to get winter tires or be able to show snow chains in the trunk. In 48 counties, the governor (prefect) must publish the precise list of selected town. Up to now, not all counties have announced the involved towns. 

In the published towns, the car must have:

  • 4 winter tires (Citroen vehicles cannot be ordered with winter tires)
  • or snow chains (metal hors textile) in the trunk for 2 wheels

10. HOW THE GPS WORKS?

All Citroën and DS cars have an in-built, touch-screen, colour Europe GPS. On collection, you will be shown how to use it by the Car-2-Europe representative. 


11. CAN I BE REFUNDED FOR THE UNUSED DAYS IN CASE OF EARLY RETURN?

Yes, but only if you meet both of the following conditions: Have an initial contract of 30 days minimum and if you return your vehicle at least 7 days before the end of the initial contract. 

The refund amount will correspond to the difference between the initial contract paid and the final contract length. A 20% withholding will be deducted from this amount by Citroën. Important: There’s no refund for short contracts (less than 21 days). In some cases, you may only be able to obtain a refund through your personal travel insurance policy.
